Collection Obsession: Victoria by Victoria Beckham !!

by hopelesslyambitiousv

OMG, it’s safe to say that I am absolutely in love with Victoria Beckham’s Spring 2012 ready to wear line Victoria by Victoria Beckham. Call me bias because I’m partial to the fact that we both have the whole V thing going on and all, but the truth of the matter is, a certain soccer star’s wife has truly got it going on !!

Okay, so let’s just start with the fact that Mrs. Beckham’s collection is totally on trend. With this season’s revival of the fifty’s, (you know judging by the high waist bikinis and oversized cat eye sunglasses) also comes the return of the girly, youthful, sophisticated yet playful of shapes and silhouettes in clothing design. This collection nailed that look the best with its dropped waist dresses, bold playful prints, and movement of each garment.

The girl is officially back this summer and Victoria by Victoria Beckham’s collection makes it easy to dress like a young, vivacious, youthful woman minus the pigtails and ribbons.

Still Quite the Ambitious One ..

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Since finally graduating from college, every morning around 9 am, I’m overwhelmed with this sense of urgency to send out resumes, check out the newest opportunities listed on Career Builder, and update and perfect my LinkedIn page. Weird right?

Well for me it’s better than nothing; because that’s exactly what it feels like I’ve been doing, nothing. Applying for jobs in 2012 is nothing like how it was, say, 2002. Gone are the days where recent grads got all suited up, put on their best heels and lipstick, and headed out the door on Monday morning in search of a job. Now, everything is completely electronic and you can literally sit in your living room, dressed in you bathrobe, and apply to openings. The bad news is, to the untrained eye it looks like you’re just fooling around as usual on the computer, and not making any effort to leave the nest. But I digress. That’s clearly a topic for another post ..

Here’s what they don’t tell you in college:
1. Landing a job right after college with very little experience isn’t has easy as its portrayed in the movies!!!
2. In order to be successful in life and finding a job you must MASTER the skill of writing an awesome cover letter.
3. You can no longer be humble, in fact, you need to brag about yourself. (most of these cover letters need to include a line or two about yourself highlighting why you are the ideal candidate for the position)

Even still, with all the obstacles and odds clearly not in my favor, I’m managing to hang in there and keep my head up. I’m applying for all the right internships at PR firms with fashion based clients, I’m following all the right companies on social media, and I’m constantly updating and sending out resumes to all the right people. Through all of the challenges, I’ve still remained as ambitious as ever. Hopefully my positivity will leap from the page of this blog to god’s ears and I’ll finally get what I’ve been searching for.

Until then, it’s back to the couch where I will continue to search on 🚶.

The Graduate

by hopelesslyambitiousv

It’s official folks, your blogger friend V is finally a college graduate!! I, Hopelessly Ambitious V, have earned my B.S Advertising, Marketing Communications degree with a concentrations in fashion from Johnson & Wales University’s Providence Campus🙂🙂🙂.

It’s taken a while for it to really sink in and become real to me. I feel like graduation itself came and went so fast, and the event itself is like a blur in time. Maybe I won’t truly feel like a graduate until my diploma arrives in four to six weeks.

Anywhoo … Let’s get to discussing what we really came here to discuss, my outfit for the ceremony of course🙂. As promised and teased in my previous post, I wore a very on trend peplum number. So on trend that I got a couple looks of envy from the not so stylish Fashion Merchandising majors in attendance, also graduating, at my school.

I ordered my super cute pink peplum dress from Miss Selfridge and couldn’t be happier with the way it looked and fit. This is how I envisioned what I wanted to look like graduation day. I seriously would have paid any amount of money for that dress. With that being said, I just did my research for this post and saw that it’s damn near 50% off!!. I bought mine for $74, but you can get your very own now for $38. They even have a coral color option at full price.

Words cannot fully express the amount of emotions going through me now that I finished school. I woke up this morning, opened my MacBook and realized I don’t have any papers due. Ever. I’m just gonna try to enjoy this momentary pause of freedom for a little bit and get to finding a career. Truthfully I’m just hoping all continues to go well🙂.

The Almost Graduate

by hopelesslyambitiousv

My college graduation is officially just two days away and I am beyond excited !!! Everything is set and prepped for Saturday and the day can’t come any quicker. I’m ready to get the hell out of Rhode Island and start my life as a degree toting grown ass woman🙂. But before I do all that .. let’s take a moment to discuss what I’ll be wearing, come the big day. I mean after all, this is a fashion blog, am I right?

Because I like to think of myself as a somewhat trend savvy individual, I have taken it upon myself to prove it. And what better occasion to flaunt my fashion superiority than graduation!! For graduation I’m going with this year’s hottest trend – the peplum🙂.

Check out my inspiration:

I’m all set to prove why I’m at the head of my class with my awesome peplum dress! Stay tuned folks for the official pics from the ceremony😉. Did I mention I can’t wait until Saturday ??!

Team Lindsay !!

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Lindsay, Lindsay, Lindsay. What happened to you? You used to be that sweet young lady who captured America’s heart and proved she could hold her own, acting chops wise, along side Denis Quaid, the late Natasha Richardson, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Now look at you, charge after charge, trail after trail, mug shot after mug shot, you just can’t seem to catch a break can ya?

Believe it or not, unlike those other bloggers out there, I’m not here to bash you and hide behind my keyboard. In fact, I’m on your side. You’ve been through hell & back and through it all I’ve always rooted for you and hoped you would make a killer comeback and silence all the haters.

It’s really unfair how the media works. Why are they so understanding and quick to forgive some, and then turn around and give others hell for making the same exact mistakes?  Does anyone remember all the hell Drew Barrymore raise when she was young? Or Robert Downy Jr.’s PR nightmares? What these celebs have in common is the fact that they fell off for a little while and were able to make a comeback. I think the media is being very unfair to Lindsay, and she’s not getting a chance to restore her image and get back to making movies again.

Call me crazy but I’m officially declaring this blog Team Lindsay despite what any of the haters have to say about it! I’m partial to Lindsay because I grew up in the 90s right as she was making her claim to fame, and beginning her world domination. That’s the Lindsay I love and remember.

I mean, give the girl a chance, she’s clearly making an effort to restore herself and get back to the way she used to be. She has even made visible step in the right direction by going back to her famous red hair. And as far as the whole Elizabeth Taylor T.V movie goes, I think Lindsay will nail it !! What celebrity is without a little past scandal?

I am the Social Network ..

by hopelesslyambitiousv

In an effort to make my personal brand more marketable and desirable to companies in PR in the fashion industry, I have literally joined every social networking website out. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, you name it, I’ve got it!

Follow me on  Tumblr, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram (@hopelessly_v)

I am not crazy or anything and I’m well aware that studies have shown that the more presence we have on social media, the more problems like chronic loneliness we develop. However, I’ve recently started applying to “big girl” jobs for right after I receive my bachelors degree in May, and I came across this wonderful opportunity of Merchandising Associate at  Condé Nast. I researched the requirements of this position and it entails 2 years of relevent writing experience and social media experience. This would be the ideal foot in the door job for me🙂. I already have the writing and social media experience from my internship and personal hobbies, but I realized the more familiar I am with the future of Marketing/PR, the better off I am.

Btw, I found out about this job via Twitter! I follow all kinds of job boards and company career Twitter pages. The world has changed. What once took the right family insider connection to learn about new job opportunities, has now been replaced by the internet’s social networking.

Ask me what my plans for the future are and I’ll tell you I plan to stay current!

The Future is Always in Fashion ..

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Hello World, I’m back once again returning from another long, unplanned, hiatus.

Now that I’m here I’d like to talk about the future. The future? Yes, the future. Because like it or not, it’s approaching fast and creeping the hell up on me faster than I can really prepare. For instance, just the other day I received my official graduation cap & gown. It’s so bizarre to me that graduation, the cultivation of my four years in college, is 29 days away. OMG!!

I’ve come along way in the last 4 years. Everything is so much more refined for me then it used to be. When I started college I still had no idea what I wanted to be, what I wanted to do, who I would eventually be. I narrowed everything down, followed my heart, and as cliché as it sounds I found myself. Deep down inside I think I’ve always known, but was way too timid to really just come out and say it.

I want to be a fashion publicist, a PR girl if you will. I want to wake  up every morning and take my love of contemporary  fashion and do behind the scenes marketing and promotions. I’m not sure if I ever got around to discussing just what the ambition was behind the name Hopelessly Ambitious V, and now that I finally have, I can let out this sigh of relief.

The future is no longer just coming, it’s here, and I plan on embracing the hell out of it!!🙂

Style Obsession: Brad Goreski !!

by hopelesslyambitiousv

To be honest, I’ve always been a fan of Brad’s. In fact, after he left The Rachel Zoe Project I realized he was one of the main reasons why I loved the show in the first place. Don’t get me wrong, Rachel is great and all, and runs a brilliant styling empire to be envied, but I have a soft spot in my heart for a well dressed ambitious gay🙂.

Brad is awesome not only because he can style both celebrity men and women, but also because he is the king of the signature look. He OWNS the well tailored prep, bow ties, POC (pop of color), and thick glasses look!! From the very first season of TRZP he won me over.

Source

I loved the first season of his show It’s a Brad, Brad World! I loved how the show followed him in his personal life and showed his struggle, ambition, and courage to build his own styling company and venture out the shadow of Rachel Zoe. Not to mention it’s entertaining as hell. This guy can do anything in my opinion, and as long as he’s still styling, appearing on red carpets, and showing up on TV, I will continue to support ❤❤❤.

A Pair for My Mother

by hopelesslyambitiousv

When I was in kindergarten not so many years ago, I was introduced to what would become one of my favorite children’s books of all time.  Since then, A Chair For My Mother has stuck with me and is the inspiration and play on words behind this post.

I’m sure after a buildup like that you’re probably wondering where this is going right?

During one of my brief visits to and from home, my mother’s glasses and the bottom of my feet had a unfortunte run in, and of course, my big size 11 feet came out victorious. RIP my mom’s glasses😦. Not to worry though, I think the reason my mom didn’t totally flip is because she was secretly looking for an excuse to finally get up and get the new pair of glasses she has desperately needed for some time now. My mother is a faithful member of the “one pair is all I need” glasses community and as a result, when I inadvertently ruined her glasses she didn’t have another pair to turn to.

Being the self-proclaimed trendseeking fashionista that I am, I have made it my latest crusade to find my mother a pair of glasses that will update her style and compliment her face. Along this journey I have found some pretty cool websites that have affordable, stylish, and practical pairs of glasses.

What’s cool about these sites is they have a feature called virtual try on which allows you to see how the glasses might look on you before you actually go to purchase. For my mom, I am looking for either a sleek semi-rimless rectangular pair, or a two tonal pair in a tortoise or deep burgundy that fades to clear. I really like these websites because they look at glasses not just from a practical, “I need to be able to see” standpoint, but also from a fashion accessory point as well. They’re glasses, They’re on your face. Why not play them up and have some style to go along with the necessity?
