Epic Scarf Video !

by hopelesslyambitiousv

I found possibly one of  the best videos on YouTube to date!

Scarfs are a really great, inexpensive gift idea. And now when you get one yourself, you will know where to turn to mix up your style 🙂

S is for Sample Sale !!!

by hopelesslyambitiousv

okay so I’m on my Twitter account (@Simplicity_V) two days ago and I click on a random link from Complex magazine, an account I strangely enough follow, and the link happens to be the flyer of  the annual Penfield sample sale in New York City !!!

Even more coincidentally, I was looking on the Urban Outfitters website like two months ago, saw the Penfield Landis women’s duffel coat, and have been pining for in ever since.

But here’s the catch, I won’t be able to go home this weekend. So instead of walking around with my head down all through the city of Providence, I recruited bestfriend and contributing blogger FashionablyKimberly to help. She will be at the sample sale early scoping out, and hopefully taking picture of all the excitement surrounded by this event 🙂  So hopefully I will know by tomorrow, whether I am the proud owner of this simple, warm, understated Penfield Landis Duffel Coat !!

The fashion gods must be smiling down on me because she put all my ducks are in a row and prepared me to get this coat 🙂

And let’s be honest, who doesn’t appreciate a good ‘ol sample sale ???!

Ding Dong, the Braids are Gone !

by hopelesslyambitiousv

So this past weekend I took my very long, Solange Knowles inspired braids out. But not to worry, my creativity and ambition did not lay strictly in my artsy, bohemian hairstyle !

Now that I am back to my natural state, I have a new Hair inspiration ..

That’s right, Vintage Corinne Bailey Rae !

Some might argue why her? my hair type is clearly a lot more course in nature, but when I take the time to care for it and style it, I can create a signature curl just like Ms. Bailey Rae!

I am embarking on a new hair care journey and Corinne Bailey Rae is my light house. Even her sense of style and fashion is always on point!

Something tells me I’ll be fine 🙂

And thus, Hopelessly Ambitious V came to be.

An Ode to The Olsens

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Oh Mary-Kate , Oh Ashley, Since the 90s you kept my TV filled with laughter, fun, and of course fashion!

The Olsen twin’s style over the years have definitely evolved, making them one of the most sought after fashion icons and designers. It’s almost impossible to run a fashion blog without reflecting the fashion stylings of Mary-Kate & Ashley. Even if you’re not a fan, or think they’re too thin, you can’t help but to agree these girls have style!

Here is a short video I found courtesy of my favorite magazine (NYLON),explaining their style and their fashion brands:

These twins have the right-look-for-every-occasion thing down to a science!

Versace x H&M

by hopelesslyambitiousv

I know that by now, all of you guys know all about the upcoming release of the Versace for H&M collection. Many of you even have the date circled in your calendars, in hopes of getting to your nearest H&M store, beating the crowd, and getting the coveted Versace pieces before it inevitably sells out completely.

I found this YouTube video of a sneekpeek of the much-anticipated collection launch:

To be honest, I’m not all that excited about this collection. I don’t think I’ll really be able to pull off a lot of those looks. I’m not all that excited about the loud tropical pink prints. Even the mini dresses for me are a turn off because of the embroidered studs, over the top sequins, and jeweled accents. I was much more excited for the launch of Missoni when they collaborated with Target :(.

But that’s just me. I still think its awesome that Versace will be available at H&M, even for a limited time. It gives folks that love the brand, but could never otherwise afford it, or would have to break the bank getting it,  a piece of the luxury name at a much more affordable price.

Whether you’re into to the Versace x H&M collection or not, you certainly can’t overlook all the buzz the collection is getting in the fashion world right now.

G is for Gucci !

by hopelesslyambitiousv

I am loving all the Gucci looks from Saturday’s LACMA Art + Film Gala !

Take a look below at some of my faves:

Camilla Belle

Evan Rachel Wood

Zoe Saldana

Rashida Jones

The looks I chose are no coincidence; there’s obviously some consistency in these pictures. I love the shimmering metallics incorporated in all four of these dress and the fringe accents featured in the first two; The look is very 20s flapper!. I also love the drop waste in the third and fourth dresses as well.

Gucci has managed to create four feminine, fierce dresses that would  look good on just about anyone. If I ever start that all girl band I dreamed of, all four of us would rock out  in one of these Gucci ensembles !!

Note Worthy Fashion Resources

by hopelesslyambitiousv

I know from the outside looking in, it may seem like I just come up with these posts on a whim. That is in fact  just not true. I am a lot more strategic than I let on.

I’m the kind of person that likes to know what I am talking about, state something, and then back it up with hard evidence. Which is why I follow a lot of fashion resources and databases.

For a lot of the in dept trend reports I use  Style Sight. It is the absolute go to when it comes to what’s next to come in the fashion arena. You can sign up for Free newsletters as well, a cheaper alternative to the coveted Women’s Wear Daily, that makes you pay for a subscription.

Another great resource I use religously is The Zoe Report. You can subscribe for free to get beauty, lifestyle, fashion advice, and styling tips! For me, this resource is great because I’ll just about follow Rachel Zoe anywhere !

In addition to these, I stay on top of everything in the retail world by using the NRF website. The National Retail Federation’s online site is a great place to stay up to date on the latest news in retail. They provides articles about how every decision in the fashion industry affects the shoppers coming in the stores, and brands at the corporate level.

Another great way to keep up with what’s in, is to follow your favorite brands’ social networking accounts. The last post featured pictures and industry news I got by following H&M’s facebook account. I also follow a lot of magazines like Complex, V, Elle, Harper’s Bazzar, and NYLON publications Twitter accounts.

There are tons of fashionable resources out there. These are just a few ways to stay on top of every angle in the fashion industry.

To die for Knits !!

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Last year in my Textiles Class I was formally introduced to knits. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve known about them for years and had my fair share of itchy sweaters. But it wasn’t until last year that I could fully distinguish them from the average cotton woven.

Now that I am an expert on the subject, every time I spot one I can’t help but to smile. Kinda like how every time a bell rings, an angle gets its wings lol.

H&M has a fabulous mix of this seasons hottest Knit Wear:

A chunky/cable knit sweater and accessory  is perfect for this time of year when the air is just starting to get a little chilly.

Make no mistake, this is a Fashion Blog ..

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Okay so I have some wonderful updates to share with you guys 😀 !!

So, remember the first post when I said I’ll still write even if no one’s reading? Well I guess we’ll never know if that’s in fact true (thank god). What I’m trying to say is that Hopelessly Ambitious V (the blog, not my alter ego) has been picking up some wonderful press lately.

First in my Visual Merchandising class, when my professor insisted on me writing the blog URL on the board, and encouraging some of my classmates to support. And second, when I became a member of the Independent Fashion Bloggers Network (hence the logo badge featured the bottom right).

Since joining the Independent Fashion Bloggers Network, I’ve been able to not only market my own blog and share posts, but check out some other really cool blogs from my fashion community. And when I say community, I mean community. The minute I joined I was already overwhelmed by messages welcoming me, asking me to check out their blogs, and asking for the URL of mine so they could check it out ❤

So let me just take a minute to say thank you !! Seriously, I could not do this without the support of you regulars, and those who happened to stop by and spread the word.

Let me also offer a word of advise. For anyone who is ambitious like myself, and always wanted to start a blog, a portfolio, or special project – go for it !! Remember also that is all about making connections and truly taking advantage of every opportunity out there. My classmate Mackenzie featured in the V, Behind the Scenes ! post, just happened to mention my blog in our class when our professor asked her about her photo shoot outing experience. Because I supported her  and took pictures, she supported me and helped spread the word about this blog. That’s what it’s all about, supporting your colleagues, making those connections, and them in return, supporting you back.

This has truly been an awesome experience from the very beginning. FashionablyKimberly & I will work hard to keep it all up.

Thanks again,

The Hopelessly Ambitious V Team
