Absence makes the Blog Grow Stronger

by hopelesslyambitiousv

I would love to tell you guys that during my little hiatus here and there, that I’ve been busy do this, and doing that (insert very important fashion related activities here). But truth is I was swamped with school work and running low on inspiration. It happens to the best of us :(.

But from here on out, I will make a commitment to stay on top of this blog and keep the ambition coming !! After all, if I’m going to continue to use this as a skill and bullet on my resume, I might as well make absolute sure that it is up to date and fresh.

I have a much lighter course load as I creep slowly into graduation mode, so that means there’s more time to get inspired and keep it coming. That means more time for lookbooks, tumblrs, blogs, and everything else that comes with the territory of fashion industry blogging.

Point is, it’s not over people. Hopelessly Ambitious V will not fall victim of google’s graveyard of abandoned blogs. Promise.

Fashion Meets Fantasy !

by hopelesslyambitiousv

I know New York Fashion Week was sooo last week, and this week it’s London’s turn in the limelight, but I don’t want to say goodbye to it just yet. Call me bias, but New York Fashion Week is my favorite of all the fashion weeks. The lights from my hometown shine a little bit brighter every time fashion week rolls through town. Even at 180 miles away in Providence, I still feel the energy and sheer inspiration of it all.

My friends and savors during Fashion Week are Syle.com and YouTube. I watch all the shows live as they happen from my little apartment in Providence.  While I was on my style.com iPhone app, I came across this little video of all the highlights of last weeks festivities. And of course I had to share !!

Goodbye NYC fashion week, see you again this fall ❤

Culture Shock

by hopelesslyambitiousv

As all of you know, fashion week is back on and is in full swing over in New York.  In fact, right as I type thousands of new ensembles and garments are being prepped, steamed, and fitted for their debut on the cat walk tomorrow.

But when I look at a designers collections, I don’t just marvel in its sheer beauty, I think about the inspiration, the research, and the science behind it all as well.

So far the two collections that really stood out and caught my eye are Jason Wu and Rag & Bone. I found these really cool videos about the inspirations behind these two collections on Style.com and I just had to share them !

As shown in the videos, you can see the designers took inspirations from culture to come up with their collections. It was really awesome to see just how culture and travel can really inspire designers to make their jaw dropping pieces.  If I were able to travel, I’d have no excuse not to be fashionable too!

The Fashion Cycle

by hopelesslyambitiousv

The one thing on my mind since I’ve been exiled to New England for school has been owning my very own bike. No surprise, since the scenery on the East side of Providence where I’m located is very collegiate and Prim, with RISD and Brown being a hop, skip, and a jump away from my apartment. I don’t want not just any bike though, I’m talking vintage lady bike with a wicker basket in the front, shiny silver bell, and a small crate in the back – think summertime Amsterdam.

This recent obsession with owning a bike isn’t something new. In fact, if I were forced into therapy right this moment, the sadness of my past would inevitably include one or two stories about always wanting to own a bike, getting said bike, and watching it rot in my backyard. Point is, the bike isn’t some metaphor for me trying to escape whatever hardship I’m facing at the moment, it’s real.

So along with the many other blogs I actively peruse in search of  inspiration, I find myself on this really cool one Lovely Bicycle! about the love of vintage bikes :).

When you look at the styles of these bikes you immediately see the connection between fashion and transportation. A bike can look like anything, all it takes is two wheels and a metal frame. It’s the art, craftmanship, and attention to detail that makes these truly stand out to me. Many designers like Kate Spade even have their hands in bikes; making transportation fashionable.

It’s just another example about how inspiration in fashion can come from just about anywhere 🙂

March of the Lady Bags

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Even though on normal day the only thing remotely close to a purse you will ever see me toting around is a plain beige canvas and leather shoulder bag for my books, or the even more depressing North Face backpack for my assignments + Macbook, I am still one of the biggest fans of purses. Specifically, really structured lady purses. I feel like bags are one of the best investments you can make when it comes to style. A good leather bag is high-priced for a reason. It’s classic, always looks great, and has the ability to last; And if it’s a really good structured one, you’re guaranteed to get your money’s worth because it will work with everything you own.

Here are a bags few I’ve been pining after lately:

Alexander Wang

Louis Vuitton

Dooney & Burke

Kate Spade

The addition of a great bag at the end of an outfit can be everything and more. I could seriously get away with wearing the tackiest zebra print rhinestone velour sweat suit, through that awesome Givenchy bag on my arm, and walk the streets with my head still held high. Of course you all know I’m kidding (Right ??!). That zebra velour comment just set my blog back a whole three and a half months LOL.

Point Blank: Invest in a really good Lady Bag. It makes all the difference 🙂

Spokesmodels ♥ ♥

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Three of the biggest names in modeling today are working overtime this upcoming spring fashion season as the face of  some of the most popular brands in fashion.

Karlie Kloss:

Oscar De La Renta

Christian Dior

Gisele Bundchen:

Salvatore Ferragamo

Adriana Lima:

Donna Karan

How cool is this? It’s not enough for these beautiful women to rule the runways at our favorites brand’s fashion shows, now they must command our magazine pages too ? Ugh. Consider me a very jealous blogger.

Collection Obsession !!

by hopelesslyambitiousv

I just discovered possibly one of the greatest collections my eyes have had the pleasure of viewing. Its Temperley London’s Pre Fall 2012 collection and yes, it is as good as the introductory sentence above just described! I mean, have you see it?! It has all the right elements of sophistication, vintage aesthetics, and grace. This collections brings to life the image in my head of what I would one day like to look like (as far as the clothes are concerned). And Oh, have you seen the pearls??!

Do you see how awesome this collection is??? It’s the right mix of the woman who wants to dress up and attend an event fit for a Queen, and a woman who wants to dress up and prove she can still kick some ass :).

Code Red

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Ahhhh, the color red; the most attention-getting of all the other colors that crumble under the pressure of sharing the crayon box with it and living in its shadow. The color that represents everything, from love and lust, to hate and anger, to heat and fire, to desire and temptation, and the list goes on ..

Red is also working overtime this new year as the new black. You know, the classic LBD is now the LRD. That’s right, little red dress. And judging by the looks of this trend, it’s not going anywhere any time soon. So get on board and do yourself a favor, make sure you have at least one to break out of your wardrobe as your absolute secret weapon and “I just threw this on but I still look so damn good” arsenal.

As you can see, the best thing about the LRD is its versatility. Not just on style and length, but also hue. The LRD has a lot more color ranges and options than the traditional black version. You can literally have many LRDs in all types of hues from cherry red, to brick, burgundy, to fuchsia.

Thank me later.

Upcoming Spring Campaigns ♥ ♥ ♥

by hopelesslyambitiousv

Not sure if I made this clear of not. Many of you by now are aware that its my senior year in college (a topic that seems to come up more often than not here), but I don’t think I ever got into what exactly I study. I’m an Advertising, Marketing Communications major. My interest has always been in fashion so I decided to declare it as a concentration. This post is the bridge of the gap between the worlds in which I live, work, and play.

Here are some of the coolest ad campaigns to come, just in time for Spring 🙂

So there you have it. The juicy new ads that will be making their way to a magazine near you 🙂

How Blogging Makes a Better Student ..

by hopelesslyambitiousv

I’m sure you’ve all heard your fair share about how blogging has changed people’s lives, allowed them to open up, and to really dig deep into their passion. But I promise you haven’t heard this take of it ..

As most of you know, I am a graduating senior currently embarking on my last year of college :'(. So as a result, I am absolutely no stranger to pulling all nighters, doing group projects, and writing insane amounts of papers !! The one thing that I have taken away from writing papers is establishing a writers voice. A unique take of a particular topic, written in your way from your point of view. Some of the best grades I have ever gotten in school was from my ability to turn the same topic we all were assigned, and put my spin on it, in my own voice. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that every college paper you write will need to be conversational, I’m just saying consider the professors point of view. Their reading the SAME paper on the SAME topic 50+ times, depending on class size. Don’t you think that the one that stands out and is interesting will receive the better grade ??!

The point that I’m trying to make is blogging is run the exact same way. Almost everyone can create a blog. I’m on WordPress and it’s absolutely free. The trick is setting your blog apart from everyone else’s, and the way to do that is same as a college paper. When you blog it’s all considering your reader. They want your unique point of view, your spin on the topic. If they just happen upon your site, a lot of them probably already follow many blogs. Blogging and papers are your way of making yours stand out from the rest.

Me hard at work. I kind of miss the braids 😦

But Just like college papers, bloggers are expected to produce the truth, so make sure that whatever you write on your blog you back it up with some kind of factual evidence of course.
